‘I’m gonna go crazy’ — Isiah Pacheco Sends Warning to the NFL After Joining the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions spent the last two seasons building one of the NFL’s most physical identities. Dan Campbell’s crew ran downhill and rode a thunder-and-lightning backfield to a historic scoring rhythm. The veteran David Montgomery was shipped this offseason to the Houston Texans. The Lions needed another bruiser to keep that edge alive.

Isiah Pacheco is a Super Bowl–winning RB with a reputation for reckless energy and violent cuts. If the 27-year-old says the chaos is just getting started.

The Lions’ free agent pickup, Pacheco, spoke about his new role. He did not sound like a guy who was just getting used to a new locker room. He sounded like a man who was ready to let loose something crazy.

The former Chiefs RB made it clear that he plans to play with the same ferocity that made him a fan favourite in Kansas City.

“They could call me Taz. I’m going to go crazy. I’m going to spin, jump, whatever I can do to get the first down to accommodate Jahmyr, and we’re fast. We got speed and they can’t sleep on it.”

Scary: New Lions RB Isiah Pacheco says that Detroit fans should refer to him as “Taz” next season.

The quote surfaced widely after an X post amplified the comment. With fans quickly latching onto the “Taz” nickname, a nod to the Tasmanian Devil-style running that defines Pacheco’s game.

The Lions clearly see a role for that chaos. Pacheco signed a one-year, $1.8 million deal with the Detroit Lions as the team’s replacement for Montgomery. The contract figure was first reported by ESPN during Pacheco’s introductory availability.

The move reunites Detroit’s smash-mouth philosophy with a runner built for contact. Pacheco is expected to complement Pro Bowl back Jahmyr Gibbs, much like the “Sonic & Knuckles” tandem Gibbs formed with Montgomery in previous seasons.

The difference now is that Pacheco brings a more chaotic style. One that Detroit hopes can grind defences late in games.Last season, Pacheco played in 13 games for the Chiefs. He ran for 462 yards and got two touchdowns. None of his 118 runs went for more than 20 yards. This was a big drop from the great seasons he had at the beginning of his career.

The move also fits Detroit’s roster timeline. Pacheco turns 28 during the 2026 season, placing him squarely in the prime window of the Lions’ offense. The motivation might be the biggest factor.

If Pacheco really becomes the “Taz” he promised, spinning, crashing, and dragging defenders, the Detroit Lions might have just found the NFL’s next backfield nightmare.
