“I’m Home”: New Panthers LB Jaelan Phillips’ First Message After Arriving in Charlotte

Jaelan Phillips wasted little time embracing his new opportunity with the Carolina Panthers. The veteran pass rusher delivered a simple but powerful message after arriving in Charlotte.

The linebacker posted on social media shortly after reaching the city, sharing a brief message that read I’m home as he began the next chapter of his NFL career. The post marked his first public statement since agreeing to join Carolina during the opening wave of free agency.

Carolina made one of the biggest defensive moves of the offseason by signing Phillips to a four-year contract worth about $120 million, including $80 million guaranteed. The deal brought the former first-round pick to a team eager to improve its pass rush after finishing near the bottom of the league in sacks last season.

Phillips, 26, entered the league as the 18th overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft after a standout college career at Miami. Across five professional seasons with the Miami Dolphins, he developed into a disruptive edge presence known for his athleticism and relentless motor off the line.

Phillips shared his thoughts about playing for his new team after arriving in Charlotte recently. This can be seen in a video made by the Panthers’ official Instagram account.

His path to this moment has not been without challenges, including significant injuries that sidelined him during parts of recent seasons. Through patience and personal growth, including time spent focusing on music and recovery, Phillips stayed committed to returning to the field and preparing for another opportunity.

Now in Carolina, Phillips will wear No. 5 as he begins a fresh start with a defense looking for a difference maker on the edge. His arrival signals both a personal milestone and a major investment by the Panthers as they aim to strengthen their defensive identity in the seasons ahead.
