Saints legend Drew Brees makes surprise at-bat for the Savannah Bananas in New Orleans

New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees traded his black and gold jersey for the Savannah Bananas signature yellow and blue during the Sunday game against the Party Animals in the Caesar's Superdome.

Donning No. 9, Brees ran onto the diamond amid screams and cheers from the crowd, who gave him a standing ovation.

Brees was greeted by members of the Bananas before he went to the plate, taking a handful pitches before grounding out on the field. With a big smile on his face, he tipped his helmet to the roaring crowd.

Brees’ entranced marked the second time a prominent Saints figure took the field during a Bananas game. Current Saints quarterback Tyler Shough tossed a touchdown to a Bananas player during Saturday night’s game.

The Bananas’ game against the rival Party Animals on Sunday marked back-to-back sold-out contests inside the Superdome.

Brees received word last month that he has been voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and it was clear that all the fans on hand at the Superdome on Sunday were happy to see their hero ham it up with the Bananas.

Brees, who stood in the left side of the batter’s box, was a baseball standout in high school and at one point thought his future might be in the sport.
