Sinners may be making Academy Awards history tonight, but one of its stars, Hailee Steinfeld, won’t be at the Oscars. Steinfeld, who also missed the Actor Awards earlier this month, is expecting her first child with husband Josh Allen, the quarterback of the Buffalo Bills.
In a recent edition of her newsletter, Beau Society, Steinfeld praised her co-stars. “While I haven’t been able to attend the past few award shows, I’ve felt the radiant energy from my cast — they’re killing it! — and to say I’m in awe would be an understatement,” she wrote. “There’s so much more I could say about this inspiring cast and crew, but this week I’ve been smiling ear to ear more than usual. As we inch closer to the Oscars, I’m getting extra emotional and reflective about my time on this set with these people.”

In that newsletter, Steinfeld shouted out her Sinners co-star Wunmi Mosaku, who is also pregnant right now. “Every time I see Wunmi, she’s in the most breathtaking dress, gown, or ensemble. On top of being the warm light she is, Wunmi and her team have been intentional about highlighting Black female designers and artists throughout this press tour,” Steinfeld wrote. “Through her fashion choices, Wunmi has introduced me to some of the most beautiful Nigerian fashion brands, like RI MI, which means ‘see me’ in Yorùbá, founded by Bukola Shoaga, a Nigerian-American, and Ahluwalia by Priya Ahluwalia, who’s a Nigerian-British designer. Not only that, but Wunmi is currently pregnant with her second child and has been quietly working on designs for her own maternity clothing line called Iyadé. She knows her fashion. Have I told you this woman sewed her own wedding dress? She’s incredible.”
