Prospect Overview
NFL.com: Pass catching comes effortlessly with soft, strong hands and he consistently works back on throws to keep ballhawks from hawking. Tate displays rare polish for a player his age and has the talent to become a heralded pro within his first three seasons.
Bleacher Report: Tate's height and wingspan offer a quarterback-friendly target. He extends the catch point away from his frame and plucks the ball from the air. Tate is a bouncy athlete who can climb the ladder over defenders at the catch point. He has soft, reliable hands and excellent ball tracking skills.
Why Tate makes sense for the Giants
Malik Nabers has already established himself as one of the best young receivers in the NFL. He's a tremendous route-runner and can make people miss effortlessly when he has the ball in his hands. Now, just imagine pairing him with another stud receiver on the other side, taking away the ability for defenses to double either one of them. That would give Jaxson Dart a tremendous set of weapons to work with in year two as a starter.
The Giants also have a true need at receiver after Wan'Dale Robinson left to join the Titans in free agency. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Giants draft multiple receivers this year, and grabbing a true playmaker like Tate, who can do it all with his 6-foot-2 frame, would be a very, very intriguing possibility.
Plus, there's always the question of Nabers' health, coming off a torn ACL. While it seems like he should be ready to go by the start of the season, having Tate as a fallback No. 1 receiver option doesn't sound like a bad thing.
