Chelsea star pushed for shock transfer– Blues summer exit could be messy

Chelsea star Enzo Fernández could leave the Premier League side in the summer window.

The Argentina international arrived at Chelsea in January 2023, weeks after winning the World Cup in Qatar, for €121m.

Since moving to Stamford Bridge, the midfielder has managed 28 goals and 29 assists from 159 matches, and 12 goals and six assists are from 44 matches from this season.

Chelsea parted ways with Enzo Maresca, who mainly utilised him in the middle of the pitch, in January.

The Club World Cup winners replaced Maresca with Liam Rosenior, and he uses Fernández as a central and attacking midfielder.

His Premier League statistics, both while attacking and defending have improved, when compared to last season. The number below are per game, with the first for this season.

Expected Goals per season: 10.05 – 6.13

Expected assists per season: 5.79 – 6.22

Interceptions: 0.6 – 0.4

Dribbled past: 0.9 – 1.5

Clearances: 0.9 – 0.6

Fouls committed: 1.0 – 1.4

The figures are indication of the former Benfica man’s influence at the west London club.

Despite this, he has a ‘chance of leaving’ the Blues in the summer. That’s according to journalist Gastón Edul, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report this.

Online, TyC Sports also report the South American has a ‘chance of leaving’ the Premier League side and share more updates.

Back in January, Sport Witness covered claims from France he’s considering his future at Chelsea. The source had reported Paris Saint-Germain as an option for the 25-year-old.

Rosenior’s key man could be in his final months with the English club as several unnamed sides are looking at him.

He could leave Chelsea in the next window, but for now, there are no approaches or offers from interested parties.

Why Blues exit won’t be easy

Fernández has spent over three years with his current club and feels it’s time for him to take the step forward in his career. However, it’s most likely to get complicated for various reasons.

Chelsea invested €121m and offered him a contract until 2032. Transfermarkt value him at €90m, which is the highest so far in his career.

The Stamford Bridge club, for their part, are unlikely to sanction his exit after this season. If he were to push for a transfer, then the Blues could demand a fee much higher than the fee they invested to buy him.

There are a handful of European clubs financially capable of spending big on the Argentine and some are in the Premier League. It’s unlikely the Blues will let him join another English club.

The other option would be to move to the Middle East, which won’t be a step up from a sporting perspective.

Fernández’s camp may have leaked the information to Edul, to test the market and see what kind of reaction it’ll create, especially in the UK.
