Marc Guehi insists Manchester City will not give up despite sitting nine points behind Arsenal in the title race and three goals down in their Champions League round of 16 tie against Real Madrid. It was a bruising week for the Blues after a heavy loss at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
This was followed by a frustrating 1-1 draw at West Ham which, coupled with Arsenal's victory over Everton, left City nine points behind the Gunners in the Premier League title race.
This week, City will host Real Madrid in the Champions League return leg before travelling to Wembley to take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.
Victories in both matches could be a massive turning point for City but Guehi is fully focused on Los Blancos. "If you go into these games and don’t believe, there’s no point in turning up to play," he said.
"It’s important we rally everyone and we’re ready to go again. We pick ourselves up - it’s the next game and the next most important thing. We’ll make sure we go for that game and believe that we can turn it around."
Guehi will not be eligible to face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final, but the defender wants his team-mates to go into both matches full of confidence.
"It’s important we free our minds - they’re two important games and big games," Guehi added.
"They’re two games that we go in to and believe we can get the win in both - free our minds and just go for it.
"The most important thing is the next action and staying in the present - not thinking too far ahead. The present is the next game and it’s about making sure we’re ready for that.
"It’s a big week ahead for us. We live each day in the present and take each game and each step at a time."
He concluded: "It’s football - we’ve all seen some crazy things happen in football so never say never and that’s the attitude we’ll have right until the end. It’s not done until the last game of the season - I think everyone knows that.
"We have to believe - we’ve got no choice. We know our fans are going to be right behind us - we’ll take it right until the end."
