West Ham are keeping tabs on Rangers centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez and the Scottish club are “willing to sell for the right price”, according to The Sun reporter Alan Nixon.

Writing on his Patreon, the journalist said that the Hammers have been watching the 24-year-old.

Fernandez only moved from League One side Peterborough for £3.5m back in July. At the time, their Director of Football Barry Fry predicted that the player could be worth ten times that amount in the future:

“I made it clear Rangers would eventually sell him for £30million or even £40m.”

It seems unlikely that the Gers would hold out for that much money, but they would be looking to make a profit of some kind. Buy a classic 1980 Admiral West Ham shirt from Fanatics UK here.

What do West Ham fans need to know about the player?

Although Fernandez now represents Nigeria at international level, he was born in London and came through the ranks at Brentford.

After failing to make the grade at the Bees, he joined Gillingham, where he was loaned out several times before joining non-league side Ramsgate in 2020.

Within 12 months, Fernandez had been snapped up by Peterborough, but he only established himself as a regular starter for the Posh in League One last season. His performances subsequently attracted the interest of Rangers.

Several Premier League clubs have scouted Fernandez

Reports in the Nigerian media last month claimed that both Chelsea and Arsenal were keeping an eye on the defender.

However, there is currently no indication that either of these clubs are considering tabling an official offer for Fernandes this summer.

West Ham, meanwhile, may only make a move if it becomes clear that they can’t secure the services of Axel Disasi on a permanent basis.
