Arsenal's Max Dowman has made history, becoming the Premier League's youngest ever goalscorer during Saturday's 2-0 victory over Everton.
The remarkable achievement, at just 16 years and 73 days old, has led former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to advocate for the youngster to be allowed to fully enjoy his moment.
Dowman secured his place in the record books with virtually the final kick of the match at the Emirates Stadium, showcasing impressive composure as he ran more than half the length of the pitch before slotting the ball home.
Rooney, who famously scored for Everton against Arsenal in 2002 at 16 years and 360 days, highlighted the importance of balancing celebration with continued development.

He suggested that while Arsenal would undoubtedly ensure Dowman remains grounded, the player should also be given room to grow.
Speaking on BBC's The Wayne Rooney Show, the former England international commented: "Let him enjoy it and go and express himself. Mikel Arteta, some of the senior players in the Arsenal squad, will not let him get ahead of himself.
“But I think you have to enjoy it as well. So when we've got a young lad like that coming through as a 16-year-old, he's clearly got a lot of ability and you just hope he can go and fulfil that potential."
Dowman’s goal sealed an important victory for Arsenal as they moved nine points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, albeit having played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s men.
Dowman could have a crucial role to play in the final stages of the season, with Arsenal still involved in four competitions.
Their next fixture sees them face Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie after last week’s 1-1 draw in Germany, before Arteta’s side face City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
