‘Offers Elsewhere’: Eagles TE Dallas Goedert Made Surprising Contract Decision

The Philadelphia Eagles have spent a good chunk of the last 2 offseasons going back and forth with tight end Dallas Goedert over his future.

In 2024, they tried to trade him and couldn’t find the right price.

This time, Goedert held all the cards — and apparently could have gone elsewhere had he wanted.

“Dallas Goedert set career highs with 60 catches and 11 TDs in 2025,” NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo wrote on his official X account. “His production earned him offers elsewhere but he was willing to work with theEagles in pushing his void back twice to prevent a $20M cap hit and buy time for a one-year deal to return.”

For all intents and purposes, Goedert never seriously entertained those other offers in returning to the Eagles, which opens several doors for the Eagles — on and off the field.

“The Eagles had to re-sign Dallas Goedert,” Real Talk With MJ said on a video posted to his official X account. “If Goedert left in free agency, and AJ Brown got traded … the Eagles Super Bowl window would officially be closed. I’m surprised Goedert’s value around the league isn’t higher, but the Eagles are easily a better team with him as TE1. Kenyon Sadiq is probably no longer a priority in the 1st round. I’d be shocked if the Eagles don’t go offensive line now.”

Dallas Goedert: Financial Implications of New Deal

Let’s be clear: Goedert did the Eagles a major solid with his new contract — not just for taking a pay cut.

“By getting the deal done, the Eagles avoid a dead-cap hit of more than $20 million that would have come when Goedert’s contract expired this Monday,” ESPN’s Tim McManus wrote. “Goedert and the team had agreed to push that void date back multiple times while working out the contract details, delaying when he officially would become a free agent. Philadelphia has been juggling multiple situations, including trade discussions revolving around receiver A.J. Brown. Should they trade Brown before June 1, the Eagles will incur a cap hit of more than $40 million — a number that shrinks to around $20 million if they trade him afterward.”

First-Round TE Likely Off Board for Eagles

The anticipation of Goedert leaving town got the imaginations rolling of Eagles fans in terms of what the future might be at tight end — including some pie-in-the-sky dreams of drafting superstar Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq.

“A bit surprising the Eagles are going to go into next season with the same TE 1 and TE2 (Calcaterra) as last season after Howie Roseman admitted their room needed new skill sets,” Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks wrote on his official X account. ‘Doesn’t seem that will happen … Fans always want the players that play for their team to want to be on their team as much as they love their team. That is the case with Goedert. He really, really wanted to be back with the Eagles. Despite the roller coaster with his contract over the past few years he has always wanted to stay with the Eagles.”
