Anthony Edwards has now set another Minnesota Timberwolves franchise scoring record, once again leading a well-rounded team with title hopes.

Heading into the fourth and final meeting in the regular season against the defending champions, the Minnesota Timberwolves were unsure about the status of Anthony Edwards.

The veteran guard has been dealing with knee soreness, leaving him questionable on Sunday morning. Fortunately, the Timberwolves were able to clear Edwards against the Oklahoma City Thunder, giving them a shot at winning three out of four against OKC.

The game didn’t go the way the Timberwolves had hoped, though.

After leading the game through a tight first half, the Timberwolves lost control over the final two quarters. Ultimately, the Thunder took over when it mattered most, and OKC picked up an impressive 116-103 win.

Following the game, Edwards explained the reason behind the loss.

When he caught up with reporters after the loss, Edwards was straightforward as always.

“I had too many turnovers myself, and I didn’t make enough shots. I don’t think it’s got anything to do with my teammates. It’s more so myself. I had too many turnovers and not enough made shots. It’s that simple,” he told reporters, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Pointing fingers at nobody but himself, Edwards wanted to take accountability for his team’s shortcomings.

In total, the Timberwolves turned the ball over 22 times on Sunday. Edwards was responsible for six of them, which led the Timberwolves. Rudy Gobert and Naz Reid combined for eight turnovers, with four a piece.

As far as shots go, Edwards went 6-17 from the field. Five of his shots were from deep, and he had 10 free throws, where he made just 50% of his attempts. The star guard rarely leaves points on the table, but Sunday was one of those days.

Edwards finished the game with 19 points. He also had five assists and six rebounds.

The Thunder are sitting comfortably in first place. They’ve been running the Western Conference since the jump. A win or loss on Sunday wouldn’t have had a major impact either way, but now they are maintaining a 3.5-game lead over the San Antonio Spurs.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves are 41-27 on the season. They are tied for the same record with the Denver Nuggets. The Houston Rockets have the same number of wins, but hold the fourth seed due to having only 25 losses right now.

Once again, the Western Conference is a tight race beyond the top two teams. The Timberwolves would have a playoff spot if the season ended on March 16, but the Phoenix Suns are just 1.5 games behind them. Every win or loss counts.

The Timberwolves will take on the Phoenix Suns at home on Tuesday, March 17. That will be Anthony Edwards’ opportunity to bounce back.
