Chelsea's stance on selling Everton target Liam Delap - Sky

Everton were in talks to sign Liam Delap before he joined Chelsea last summer.

David Moyes was pushing to sign Liam Delap after his impressive season with Ipswich Town in the 2024/25 season.

Despite encouraging talks with the Toffees, Delap decided to make the £30m switch to the West Londoners.

Wonder how much we’d be able to sell him for…😬

The young striker has struggled in the capital, having scored just one goal in the Premier League.

Liam Rosenior has admitted Delap will be back-up to Joao Pedro, so naturally, there are question marks around his future.

With that said, Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has now revealed Chelsea’s stance on selling the Everton target.

Chelsea still believe in Everton target Liam Delap

Solhekol has explained that Chelsea believe in Delap and are prepared to give him time to adjust to his new surroundings.

“They will give him a chance,” the Sky journalist stated.

“They believe in him.. I think they just feel behind the scenes that he’s been a little bit unlucky with injuries and also because Joao Pedro has been playing so well.

“The message from inside the club is you got to back him, trust him, just give him a little bit more time because he is very young.”

So, it sounds as though Chelsea are keen to retain his signature this summer, despite reports suggesting he could leave on a loan deal.

The Toffees have been linked with a loan move for Delap in recent weeks, but that doesn’t look very likely as it stands.

Moyes has also been tracking Alexander Sorloth after his prolific season with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid this term.

Remember him at Crystal Palace… would you like to see Sorloth at the Hill Dickinson Stadium? 👀

Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth.

Sorloth would be a much better addition than Delap, as he’s more experienced and would join with a lot more belief.

The 30-year-old has netted 16 goals this term, including five in the Champions League, so he’s proved he can operate at the elite level.

There is still a question mark around Delap’s level.
