The New England Patriots released wide receiver Stefon Diggs ahead of the 2026 league year, and the 11-year veteran is still a free agent. While the four-time Pro Bowler has lost a step and couldn’t justify his exorbitant cap hit with the Patriots, he still put together a solid season. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the wideout finished the season with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns on 102 targets.
Assuming his legal troubles don’t keep him off the field, Stefon Diggs should draw some interest in the coming months. There aren’t enough good wide receivers to go around, and Diggs can still get open and help an offense stay ahead of the chains.
3 Teams That Could Sign Free Agent Stefon Diggs
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have one of the league’s most talented rosters, but they could use more help at wide receiver. Zay Flowers is more than capable of being the top option in the passing attack, but Rashod Bateman is too inconsistent for a contending team. While the team missed out on most of the big-name free agents, they could still take a shot at Stefon Diggs.
Diggs is not the player he once was, but he is still coming off a strong season with the New England Patriots. Serving as the top option for MVP runner-up Drake Maye, the veteran wideout finished the season with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns on 102 targets. He’s no longer a perennial Pro Bowler, but he’s more than capable of being the second-best receiver in this passing attack.
Los Angeles Rams
On paper, the Los Angeles Rams have one of the league’s best wide receiver duos in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Most teams would be happy with this elite pairing, but Sean McVay’s Rams are not most teams. Los Angeles is reportedly trying to trade for veteran pass-catcher A.J. Brown as the team goes all-in on the end of Matthew Stafford’s career.
Brown is a better player at this stage in their respective careers, but signing Stefon Diggs as a free agent might make more sense for the Rams. Los Angeles already surrendered multiple picks for cornerback Trent McDuffie, and giving up more picks for Brown could be unwise. Diggs only costs money and would easily be the best WR3 in football.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs must do something to support Patrick Mahomes next year. While Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker will add a much-needed boost to the running game, the defense will probably be considerably worse next year. Trent McDuffie, Bryan Cook, and Jaylen Watson are all gone, and the Chiefs won’t be able to replace that much departed talent in one offseason.
The Chiefs could be in quite a few shootouts next year, and they’ll need a free agent like Stefon Diggs for these high-scoring affairs. Rashee Rice is a great receiver, but the rest of the depth chart needs some work. Diggs is the best option on the open market and could be a plug-and-play option in this passing attack.
