Trossard returns to training, but key duo absent

Leandro Trossard took part in today’s training session as Arsenal made their final preparations for tomorrow’s Champions League second leg against Bayer Leverkusen, but Jurrien Timber and Martin Odegaard were both absent.

Despite picking up an issue against Mansfield, the Belgium international trained early last week and initially looked set to travel with the squad to Germany before pulling out at the last minute. As a result, he missed both the 1-1 draw at the BayArena and Saturday’s win over Everton.

Timber started against the Toffees but was replaced by Cristhian Mosquera before half-time. The specifics of his issue are currently unclear.

Odegaard meanwhile, has missed five matches in a row with a knee issue since a brief cameo against Sp*rs. In total, the Norwegian has sat out 20 games this season, having also struggled with two shoulder issues and another knock.

At this stage, you have to assume he’s a major doubt for the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City. It will also be interesting to see whether he is called up by Norway for their upcoming friendlies against the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Mikel Merino is the other player still in the treatment room. The Spaniard is a long-term absentee as he recovers from surgery on a foot fracture.
