Former Browns Star Offensive Lineman Linked to Going to Heated AFC North Rival

Former Browns star linked to division rival.

The Cleveland Browns have overhauled their offensive line, and one player, Wyatt Teller, is not expected to return.

Teller has been an impact guard for the Browns for years, but ahead of free agency, he said he wouldn’t be returning. Cleveland has since signed an offensive guard, Zion Johnson, to help fill the void, while Teller remains a free agent.

Teller should have multiple teams interested in him, and NFL analyst Noah Strackbein of SI linked the former Browns guard to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers need a left guard,” Strackbein wrote. “The team is comfortable with Spencer Anderson, but isn’t looking to hand him the starting job. And if they feel they want a veteran with plenty of starting experience, their AFC North rivals may have just let someone walk.

“The Cleveland Browns decided they weren’t bringing Wyatt Teller in 2026, instead moving forward with Teven Jenkins and Elgton Jenkins as their starters. Now, the 31-year-old is looking for a new home, and protecting (most likely) Aaron Rodgers feels like it could make sense.”

Teller has spent most of his career at right guard, but if the Steelers are comfortable with him shifting over to the left side, he makes a lot of sense in Pittsburgh.

“It feels like an easy signing for the Steelers to make, if Teller is interested. Plus, getting to add a long-term starter in the AFC North to your roster always comes with some added satisfication. At this point in free agency, the Steelers are just looking to fill holes. Left guard is their biggest one, and Teller could be the solution they need,” Strackbein added.

Teller is a three-time Pro Bowler.

Teller Pens Goodbye to Browns

Although Teller has been a stellar offensive guard, he announced before free agency that he wouldn’t be returning.

Teller took to social media to thank Cleveland fans for all the support as he confirmed he wouldn’t be returning.

“Cleveland, I wish things were different and this is hard to put into words,” Teller wrote on Instagram. “When Buffalo traded me to Cleveland seven years ago, I never could have imagined how much this city would mean to me. Ultimately, the Browns took a chance on me that changed the trajectory of my life forever.

“To the most loyal fans in the NFL, I hope y’all know that you have made a mark on my family’s life forever.”

Teller completed his four-year, $56.8 million deal with the Browns.

Cleveland Overhauls O-Line

The Browns entered free agency with a goal of overhauling their offensive line.

All five starters were free agents, and Cleveland moved quickly to replace them. The Browns traded for Tytus Howard to start at tackle and then signed Zion Johnson and C/G Elgton Jenkins.

The Browns could also use multiple draft picks on the offensive line, and head coach Todd Monken said he’s not afraid to have multiple rookies starting on the offensive line.

“Nope,” Monken said. “Nope. I mean, if they’re the best players, that’s where we’re at right now. I mean, we understand that. Now would it — multiple depends on how many multiple.”

But, one thing is clear: Teller is among the many offensive linemen that won’t be back for the Browns.
