Chelsea have reportedly opened talks regarding their pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae and are looking to acquire the services of the defender in the summer.
Min-jae has endured a reduced role in Vincent Kompany's squad this season, playing just two minutes in Bayern’s last outing – a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. Chelsea, in search of a solution to their defensive issues, have identified Min-jae as a potential target, with Bild’s Christian Falk reporting last month that the Blues showed interest in the South Korea international and kept him on their shortlist.
In the latest development from Falk, while speaking on The Bayern Insider Podcast, Chelsea have followed up on their initial interest by ‘knocking on the door’ of Min-jae. However, Bayern are fine with his situation, and the player himself is not considering leaving Allianz Arena at the moment.
Falk, meanwhile, stressed that Bayern would be prepared to discuss a potential deal if they receive an offer of between €30 and 40 million for the 29-year-old at the end of the season. Min-jae’s current deal with Bayern will run until 2028, and his current market value stands at €25 million, according to Transfermarkt.
The Blues were reportedly in the market in January for a centre-back in Jeremy Jacquet but were pipped to the signature of the Frenchman by Liverpool.
Chelsea not considering move for Bayern Munich defensive midfielder – Reports
In further development, Falk dismissed reports that Chelsea are weighing up a move for Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlovic. The journalist categorically branded such claims as ‘not true,’ saying Pavlovic is happy at Bayern.
“No, that’s not true. He’s feeling very well at Bayern Munich. Perhaps the people don’t know that his agent is Dieter Hoeneß, a former Bayern player and the younger brother of Uli Hoeneß. (and I think everyone knows who this is! He’s the godfather at Bayern Munich). So, if there were any hint of interest in Pavlović, he would be the first to hear it and would say no,” he said.
Falk added that Pavlovic recently expressed his desire to spend his entire career at Bayern. The midfielder came through the ranks at Bayern and was promoted to the senior team in 2023.
So far this season, he has made 34 appearances for the Bavarians and registered four goal contributions. In addition to Chelsea, Manchester City are also said to be interested in Pavlovic.
