Bills linked to star receiver after landing DJ Moore.

The Buffalo Bills are looking to overhaul their offense and bring in more weapons.

Buffalo has been searching for a true No. 1 receiver since Stefon Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans. The Bills tried to use a receiver by committee, but it hasn’t worked out. So, the team went out and traded for DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears to be a true No. 1 receiver.

Although the Bills added Moore, the team is still linked to making other receiver news. Bills analyst Alex Brasky of SI linked Buffalo to signing free agent receiver Deebo Samuel.

“Deebo Samuel remains on the open market, and the Bills should strongly consider reaching out to the veteran to improve their group of pass catchers,” Brasky wrote. …

“If the Bills can find a way to land Samuel on a low-cost contract, which is likely considering the current state of free agency, it would be well worth considering. Samuel isn’t the big-bodied, downfield target the team has been desperately searching for, but the 6-foot, 215-pound WR still has some gas left in the tank, and Buffalo should kick his tires.”

Samuel is a star receiver who inked a three-year, $71.5 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers in 2022. Although Samuel is a bit past his prime, he still can be a solid No. 2 or No. 3 receiver behind Moore and Khalil Shakir and give Josh Allen another weapon.

Samuel is projected to sign a two-year, $31.5 million deal, according to Spotrac.

Bills Have Been Linked to Samuel in the Past

Buffalo being linked to Samuel isn’t a shock, as the Bills have had previous interest in him.

At the trade deadline, Bills insider Tim Graham of The Athletic reported Buffalo was kicking tires on trading for Samuel and Von Miller.

“Keep an eye on Deebo Samuel and/or Von Miller to BUF from WAS,” Graham wrote on X.

Although Buffalo was linked to Samuel at the deadline, the Bills ended up not trading for him. Instead, the team opted to sign Brandin Cooks as their lone addition to the receiver room. Cooks also remains a free agent.

But if Samuel’s market comes down, perhaps Buffalo will circle back and look to bring in the star receiver.

Samuel is a one-time Pro Bowler. In Washington last season, he recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Buffalo Searching for WR Help

The Bills have been linked to wide receiver help for years, and the team went out and traded for Moore.

Now, with the first wave of free agency done, the Bills could still use another receiver, or the team could look to draft one. At the NFL Draft Combine, head coach Joe Brady shared what he looks for in a receiver.

“The biggest thing about wide receiver play is no two receivers are the exact same, so I think understanding their type of skill sets and seeing what those kind of look like in specific drills,” Brady said. “There’s some guys that are naturally quicker. I hope to see that quickness in some of the drills. Some guys are straight line speed that they might struggle in a shuttle drill or what not. But, to me, I like the combine to really understand the personality, what makes them tick.”

With Buffalo hiring an offensive-minded head coach, the Bills will look to give Josh Allen some more help.
