LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The NBA will hold a vote at next week’s Board of Governors meeting to explore adding expansion teams to Las Vegas and Seattle, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

In a social media post Monday, Charania says sources tell him there is momentum for the board to approve moving forward with taking bids for franchises in both cities.
Industry executives project proposals in the $7–$10 billion range for each team and estimate that both markets would rank among the NBA’s top-eight revenue generators, according to Charania.
The first expected vote will allow the league to focus on Las Vegas and Seattle and launch a bidding process for the teams. A potential final vote later in 2026 would finalize the transactions, bringing the league to 32 teams.
In both voting rounds, 23 of 30 governors must vote in favor.
Commissioner Adam Silver said Dec. 16 at the NBA Cup championship game in Las Vegas that the league will decide in 2026 whether to proceed with expansion.
The NBA last expanded in 2004 with Charlotte.
