Bernardo: We need to have a Manchester City night

Bernardo Silva says City have to focus on themselves in Tuesday's Round of 16 UEFA Champions League clash.

City come up against the Spanish Giants on Tuesday 17 March with kick-off set for 20:00 (UK) as we look to stage a remarkable comeback at the Etihad Stadium.

It’s not the first time we have been in this position as our captain knows all too well.

Pep Guardiola’s side showcased a stunning performance to beat Real Madrid 4-0 in the Champions League semi-final second leg in 2023 as we progressed to the final in Istanbul against Inter Milan.

It’s not unusual to see a remontada between these two sides with City suffering semi-final heartbreak as Real staged a late fightback to clinch a 3-1 second leg victory after extra time.

The clash at the Bernabeu saw the hosts clinch a 6-5 win on aggregate.

Bernardo Silva was more than involved in our 4-0 display at the Etihad Stadium as he opened the scoring before adding a second in the 37th minute.

“It’s not a Real Madrid night,” Bernardo said.

“I think we need to have a Manchester City night because we’ve had many of those when people didn’t believe in us and things have gone well.

“Madrid have had many nights in the last few years and what we want is to create an atmosphere of belief in the stadium and early as possible, to score a goal.

“With one goal, the atmosphere of the whole stadium will change.”
