QB Haynes King should be a late-round option for the Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings have already reshaped their quarterback room in a big way this offseason by signing Kyler Murray, but that doesn’t mean they’re done adding at the position.

According to draft insider Tony Pauline, Minnesota was among the teams that met privately with Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King before his pro day.

“Quarterback Haynes King was on the money, and one NFC East team described him as ‘dialed in’ throughout the entire workout,” Pauline wrote on March 14.

“For those keeping score, he hit on 52 of 54 passes and was very accurate. Over the course of the past two days, King met with the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, and Minnesota Vikings. King has been lauded for his leadership and toughness by scouts.”

More on How King Would Fit in the Vikings QB Room

GettyThe Minnesota have met with QB Haynes King ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Murray signed a one-year deal this week, and his arrival adds experience to a room that includes J.J. McCarthy and 2025 undrafted rookie Max Brosmer.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell has worked with quarterbacks who have vastly different styles, but the Vikings now have an experienced veteran in Murray and a young former first-rounder in McCarthy, who the team isn’t quite ready to give up on yet.

That gives them freedom to add another developmental prospect along with Brosmer without having to force him onto the field right away. With Murray on a one-year contract and Brosmer still unproven, there is room for another young arm to compete.

King is one of the more interesting late-round quarterbacks in the 2026 draft class. He began his career at Texas A&M, where he started two games in 2021 before suffering a season-ending injury. In 2022, he played six games and threw for 1,220 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. His career didn’t really take off until he transferred to Georgia Tech, though.

More on Why the Minnesota Vikings Could Draft QB Haynes King in 2026

In 2023 with the Yellow Jackets, King threw for 2,842 yards and 27 touchdowns, also adding 737 yards and 10 scores on the ground. In 2024, he became a far more efficient passer, completing 72.9% of his passes for 2,114 yards, 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions while rushing for 587 yards and 11 more TDs. In 2025, he followed that up with 2,951 yards, 14 touchdowns, 953 rushing yards and 15 rushing scores.

His 2025 season was good enough to earn ACC Player of the Year and ACC Offensive Player of the Year honors, and he also won the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. If you look solely at the numbers, it might appear as if he’s a savvy runner who just happens to play quarterback — but you don’t want to discount his arm.

🐝 Haynes King, Georgia Tech

Here’s what NFL.com’s resident draft expert Lance Zierlein had to say about his game:

King will enter camp as a 25-year-old rookie after spending three years apiece at Texas A&M and Georgia Tech. He’s a long-legged, dual-threat quarterback who displayed admirable resilience in becoming a productive, winning player after suffering through unmet expectations at Texas A&M. He’s a grit-and-guts passer with subpar footwork and mechanics, but he finds ways to make plays when needed. He’s not nearly the passer he needs to be for the pro game, but his talent as a runner and mental toughness could give a boost to his chances.

At 6-foot-2 and 212 pounds, King ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash, and his 33.5-inch vertical and 6.89 three-cone drill showcase his athleticism. He could be the perfect addition to come aboard and either challenge Bosmer for QB3 or land on the practice squad to develop further. It’ll be interesting to see how the draft board falls.
