49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings has been ranked the top remaining free agent available in the NFL
The San Francisco 49ers have been busy to begin the offseason, as they have looked to restock their roster and go on a championship run in 2026. Some new faces have been brought into town, with perhaps the team’s biggest signing seeing them land star wide receiver Mike Evans on a three-year, $42.4 million contract.
While signing Evans is nice, it has resulted in the future of wide receiver Jauan Jennings becoming rather murky. After a pair of breakout campaigns, Jennings is poised to cash in this offseason, and with the first wave of free agent signings in the books, it appears he may be the top free agent left on the open market.
Jauan Jennings Ranked Top Remaining Free Agent
A seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Jennings has gradually turned himself into a key piece of the Niners’ offense. Thanks in large part to a slew of injuries, Jennings has found himself becoming one of the team’s top receivers, largely because they had nobody else available. And yet, Jennings has proven he can hold his own as a top-tier playmaker.
Jennings’ breakout campaign came in 2024, when he posted career-highs in receptions (77) and receiving yards (975), while also hauling in six touchdowns. In 2025, Jennings wasn’t as productive (55 REC, 643 YDS, 9 TD), but his nine scores were the highest of his career. With free agency looming, there was reason to believe Jennings would be a hot commodity.
Instead, he has remained on the open market for a week now, but he hasn’t seemed particularly close to finding a new home. And yet, his talent is undeniable, and with most of the other big names across the league off the board, it looks like Jennings is the top remaining free agent left for teams in the NFL to sign.
“Everyone’s favorite instigator, Jennings is a rugged receiver who can block, make contested catches and occasionally carry an offense,” Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com wrote when re-ranking the NFL’s remaining free agents.
Should the 49ers Re-Sign Jauan Jennings?

The 49ers aren’t exactly short on playmakers, as they currently have Evans and Ricky Pearsall leading the way at wide receiver, while Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle lead the way at running back and tight end, respectively. As we’ve seen over the past few years, though, injuries are always popping up in San Fran, which has to be taken into account when considering the construction of this roster.
The depth behind Evans and Pearsall at wide receiver isn’t great, so re-signing Jennings certainly couldn’t hurt. However, the team has had some contract drama with him in the past, so that could ultimately prevent them from bringing him back to town. If the price is right, keeping Jennings makes sense, but at this stage of the game, it seems more likely that he will be signing with the highest bidder.
