Liam Rosenior has confirmed Chelsea captain Reece James is set for several weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Speaking ahead of the Blues' Champions League last 16 clash versus PSG, Rosenior confirmed: "Reece, he's felt something in his hamstring at the end of the Newcastle game.

"We don't know the full extent of the injury, but he will be out for tomorrow's game. It could be [serious]. With a hamstring injury, it's never great. Hopefully we can get him scanned and find out the full extent."

The Chelsea head coach revealed James picked up the issue in the 1-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle, explaining: "Any player at any time, if you feel something, you are going to be worried about it. It was towards the end of the game."

Meanwhile, Rosenior also added fellow full-back Malo Gusto and goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen are doubts for the contest after both featured in last Wednesday's first leg at the Parc des Princes.

He said: "Malo is ill today, so we'll look at that tomorrow. With Filip [Jorgensen], he's felt something in his groin and we will get him scanned."

It's a major blow for Chelsea to lose their captain, who recently penned a new bumper long-term contract at Stamford Bridge to reflect his growing importance inside the club.

The Blues had joy in France but shipped three late goals to leave themselves with a mounting to climb.

PSG were also given the weekend off by Ligue 1 officials so they could have extra rest ahead of their trip to London.

Still, Rosenior is optimistic Chelsea have what it takes to wrestle back the tide, stating: "If you look at the game in isolation, we were punished by our own mistakes.

"For us, it's been a theme. We've performed consistently very well but have been undone in games by concentration. We need to be perfect in terms of not making mistakes. PSG are the European champions for a reason but we've shown at times we can compete with them."

Last week, Chelsea's starting XI ahead of the first leg was leaked within the French press. But Rosenior isn't overly concerned the same will happen again before the two sides lock horns in west London.

He remarked: "I'll be really honest, I've not even thought about it. It's not the first time and it won't be the last time. I'm focused on winning the game. These things happen. I'm sure it won't happen again."
