Back in January, the New York Knicks quietly added former four-star prospect Manny Obaseki to their G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks.

The move largely flew under the radar at the time but carried an element of intrigue.

New York was taking a low-risk look at a versatile rookie wing with legitimate pedigree, a player whose professional trajectory has yet to fully reflect the promise he showed earlier in his career.

Since arriving in Westchester, Obaseki’s form has fluctuated, in part due to the depth and talent available within the team’s rotation.

New York Knicks Prospect Obaseki Seizes Opportunity

To close out January and begin February, Obaseki put together an encouraging stretch that included five consecutive double-digit scoring performances.

That run was highlighted by a 15-point, seven-rebound, six-assist and three-block outing in a victory over the Wisconsin Herd on January 17.

However, Westchester’s roster has regularly included several NBA-assigned players, including Tyler Kolek and Pacome Dadiet, along with two-way trio Trey Jemison III, Dillon Jones and Kevin McCullar Jr.

As a result, Obaseki has frequently found himself lower in the rotation.

The addition of veteran T.J. Warren and the emergence of Dink Pate have also further squeezed available minutes for the 23-year-old.

Still, on Sunday, Obaseki received extended playing time, logging 21 minutes in a 120-11- win over the Noblesville Boom on the second night of a back-to-back.

He made the most of the opportunity, recording 16 points, the highest scoring performance of his Westchester stint so far, along with five rebounds, one assist and one block while shooting an efficient 6-of-9 from the field, including two three-pointers.

The contrast in playing time was stark. On the first night of the back-to-back against the Boom, Obaseki played just three minutes and finished scoreless.

Across 24 games this season, including 16 appearances with Westchester, Obaseki is averaging 8.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 41.1% from the field and 36.1% from three-point range.

Manny Obaseki Continuing to Show Flashes of Upside

Notably, during his time with Westchester, the young forward has connected on eight of his 18 attempts from beyond the arc, good for a 44.4% shooting rate as he continues to show promise as a perimeter threat.

Obaseki arrived in Westchester after spending the early part of the 2025-26 G League season with the Oklahoma City Blue.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, he has shown flashes of two-way versatility during his rookie campaign.

Across 16 appearances with the Blue, including six starts, Obaseki averaged 7.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 21.3 minutes per game.

His production notably increased when given a larger role. During an eight-game stretch in which he started six times, he averaged 11.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists while playing nearly 32 minutes per contest.

“Arguably the best athlete in the senior class, Obaseki makes the type of highlight-reel plays that would immediately change the momentum of a game,” 247Sports’ Brandon Jenkins previously wrote. “His elite athleticism is the foundation for his tremendous upside as an offensive threat and lockdown defender.”

After four seasons at Texas A&M at the college level, Obaseki entered the 2025 NBA Draft but ultimately went undrafted.

Whether his stint with the Knicks becomes a brief evaluation or develops into something more long-term remains uncertain.

What is clear, however, is that the New York Knicks clearly believe that the right structure, defined roles and consistent opportunities can unlock value in players who might otherwise go overlooked.
