Five Things to Know About New Chiefs RB Emari Demercado

The Chiefs made another addition to their backfield on Monday, signing speedy running back Emari Demercado.

Here are five things to know about the Chiefs' newest offensive weapon.

**1\. Demercado averaged 6.5 yards-per-carry during his three seasons in Arizona.**

An electric playmaker for the Cardinals when given a chance, Demercado averaged 4.9 yards-per-carry in 2023 (58 rushes for 284 yards), 9.3 yards-per-carry in 2024 (24 carries for 223 yards) and 7.1 yards-per-carry in 2025 (44 carries for 312 yards).

That all works out to an average of 6.5 yards-per-carry across 126 career attempts, and on top of that, Demercado added 50 receptions for 324 yards during his time in the desert.

Simply put, when Demercado touched the ball for the Cardinals, he often turned in a productive play.

**2\. He consistently broke off big plays when on the field.**

Demercado tallied just 126 carries during his time with the Cardinals, but when provided with an opportunity, he often made the most of it.

In fact, Demercado ripped off 20 runs of double-digit yardage over his three years in Arizona, doing so on 15.9% of his carries. Demercado doesn't have the carries to qualify on the leaderboard in that category, but if he did, he would top De'Von Achane (15.7%) for the highest "big play" rushing percentage among running backs in the NFL during that span.
