AC Milan and Inter Milan battling it out for Man City star

Manchester City will need to overcome a 3-0 deficit when they host Real Madrid in the scone leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Tuesday night.

The Citizens slumped to a disappointing defeat in the first leg in the Spanish capital last week, putting Pep Guardiola’s side on the verge of an early exit from the competition.

Domestically, City were held to a 1-1 draw against West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday, causing a huge blow to their hopes of winning the top flight title this term.

While Guardiola will hope that his side can pull off a minor miracle against Real on Tuesday night, off the pitch it has emerged that two of Italy’s biggest clubs are set to battle it out in the race to sign a City star.

As per CaughtOffside, both Inter Milan and AC Milan are showing interest in City defender Nathan Ake.

The report claims that the two Serie A giants are set to battle it out this summer in an effort to sign the Dutchman, who has fallen somewhat out of favour over the past 12 months.

Ake, 31, joined City from Bournemouth back in 2020 and played an integral role during his first few seasons at The Etihad.

In total the defender has made 170 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, as well as winning no fewer than ten trophies including four Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Ake’s contract with Manchester City is set to expire at the end of next season, but the report appears to suggest that the player’s future in Manchester beyond this summer is uncertain.

AC Milan are said to be keen to add experienced defenders to their squad and have therefore identified Ake as a possible target, while Serie A champions Inter admire Ake’s versatility, with the Netherlands international able to play across the backline as well as in midfield.
