Anfernee Simons was acquired by the Boston Celtics from the Portland Trail Blazers this offseason.

Heading into their Monday, March 16, matchup, the Chicago Bulls landed an update on some key players before facing the Memphis Grizzlies.

Among the players mentioned is the former Boston Celtics standout, Anfernee Simons.

The veteran guard is currently dealing with a wrist injury. It started on February 21, when the Bulls took on the Detroit Pistons.

The Bulls plan to be without Simons for at least 10 more days. With that timeline, he’ll add six more absences, including Monday’s action against the Memphis Grizzlies.

If Simons is cleared after the 10 days are up, then he could return against the Grizzlies when they pay a visit to Tennessee on Saturday, March 28.

Chicago Bulls say Anfernee Simons (left wrist) will be re-evaluated in 10 days. Bulls guard Jaden Ivey (left knee soreness) will be re-evaluated in one week.

The 26-year-old guard landed with the Bulls at the 2026 trade deadline. As the Celtics searched for veteran help in the front court, the Celtics were intrigued by the veteran center, Nikola Vucevic.

As much as the Celtics appreciated Simons’ season, especially in the absence of Jayson Tatum, they knew they would soon get another high-usage player back in the fold. The front court was the top priority.

Both teams in that trade are dealing with injury concerns from acquisitions. Simons hurt his wrist with the Bulls, while Vucevic fractured his finger with the Celtics.

Since landing with the Bulls, Simons has appeared in just six games. He missed the last 10 matchups for Chicago.

During his six-game stretch, Simons has averaged 28 minutes on the court. The veteran has shot 43% from the field and 32% from three, averaging 15.2 points per game. He also came down with 28 rebounds per game, while producing 3.0 assists per game.

Simons Is Approaching A Big Summer

During the 2022-2023 NBA season, Simons started a four-year, $100 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Blazers moved the deal off the books by trading him to the Celtics ahead of the 2025-2026 season. The final $27.6 million salary will expire with the Bulls this year. This summer, Simons is approaching free agency.

The veteran guard landed in the NBA in 2018. He was the 24th overall pick for the Blazers. Simons played seven seasons for the Blazers. He averaged 15.0 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game for Portland.

When he got to Boston, Simons posted averages of 14.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He made 44% of his field goals and 39% of his threes.

Simons had plenty of support from his former Celtics teammates when he left the organization. A possible return shouldn’t be ruled out in the future. For the time being, Simons is focused on his recovery before coming back and completing his showcase for potential free agency suitors.
