The Los Angeles Lakers continue to try to put all of the pieces together on the roster. They have struggled to have everyone available, as injuries have hurt their starting lineup. Both LeBron James and Austin Reaves have missed sizable chunks of the season.
Luka Doncic has been one of the more durable players on the roster, especially in the starting lineup. Doncic has been putting up stats much better than he had a year ago. His scoring, shooting percentage, and assists are all up from last season.
In the last couple of weeks, Doncic has played the best basketball he’s played all year long. He scored 31, 51, and 30 points in his performances last week. Now, he has been rewarded for that performance.
Lakers Guard Luka Doncic Earns POTW Honors
Doncic has earned the Western Conference Player of the Week after putting up those massive scoring performances. With him taking his offensive game to a new level, the Lakers have won eight of their last nine games. His scoring continues to be excellent.
Los Angeles still has to figure out a way to play well with all three superstars on the court at the same time. Specifically, James has to find a way to play well with Doncic and Reaves. Doncic has been playing great, even though he has been dealing with some distractions off the court.
Right now, the Lakers sit third in the Western Conference standings. Doncic has shown that he doesn’t let outside noise and distractions affect the way he plays the game. He’s a world-class scorer and passer, and always will be as long as he is healthy.
Doncic continues to be the best player that Los Angeles has and very likely will be a first-team All-NBA selection when the season ends. LA currently has home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs if the year ended right now.
Luka Doncic Shares Honor With Miami Star
While Doncic was the Western Conference winner of this award, Heat star Bam Adebayo won the Eastern Conference Player of the Year. After scoring 83 points in a single game against the Wizards, his choice was pretty obvious. He deserved to be rewarded after his historic performance.
Doncic still needs to play some better defense as the season winds to a close. His poor ability to stay in front of his man on the perimeter is still an issue that the team needs to figure out. He has to figure a way to play better when the games matter the most.
The Lakers have also tried to get Deandre Ayton to play more engaged on a regular basis. When he does, the team is much better off. He is the best center they have on the roster, so they need him to play the best he can when the postseason rolls around.
This is an award that Doncic won’t care much about. He won’t have a shot to win the MVP with how well Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is playing, however. He will have a better shot at that next year.
