After a busy start to NFL free agency, the Seattle Seahawks have been quiet in recent days. Seattle revealed a new move signing a veteran defender with 25 starts on his resume.
The Seahawks announced the signing of safety Rodney Thomas II on March, 16, 2026. Thomas will compete in the secondary in an effort to replace some of the team’s depth that was lost in the early days of free agency.
The newest addition to the Seahawks has been remarkably healthy during his career. Thomas has played in all 17 games in four straight seasons for the Indianapolis Colts since being selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft.
Seattle marks Thomas’ first new team the safety has played for since being drafted by Indianapolis.

New Seahawks Safety Cited the Team’s ‘Brotherhood’ as the Main Reason for Signing With Seattle
Thomas’ best season came during his rookie campaign in 2022 notching a career-high 52 tackles and six pass deflections in 17 appearances, including 10 starts. The veteran cited the Seahawks’ “brotherhood” as a major reason why he signed with the team.
“The brotherhood,” Thomas told Seahawks.com’s Ari Horton during a March 16, interview. “It just speaks volumes on the tape. Just something I want to be a part of, something that I’m used to, just guys pulling for one another, just laying it on the line for the guy besides you. It’s a part of the program I want to be part of.
“You could just see every time someone makes a play, if you just turn it on randomly, you’ll see everybody celebrating, you can’t tell who made the play because everybody’s that excited for the guy beside them.”
The Seahawks Lost Coby Bryant & Riq Woolen
The news comes days after Seattle lost both Coby Bryant and Riq Woolen via NFL free agency. Seattle still has plenty of cap space to make additional moves, but the Seahawks are also attempting to plan for the future when stars like Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon need new deals.
Spotrac projects the Seahawks still have $44.4 million in cap space, the ninth most in the NFL. Time will tell if Seattle has any major moves remaining.
