[](https://www.joebucsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Heckmugright.png)Last year the Bucs signed and targeted Charlie Heck to fill-in for Tristan Wirfs at left tackle but absolutely refused to play him there.
In fact, the Bucs basically turned their offensive line upside down to keep Heck off the field.
It was wild. Rather than let veteran swing tackle Heck fill in for Wirfs — he practiced for months at left tackle — the Bucs kicked center Graham Barton to left tackle, left guard Ben Bredeson to center and inserted (not that) Michael Jordan into left guard for Weeks 1 through 3.
And it worked.
Heck, of course, was pressed into duty at Houston in Week 2 when right tackle Luke Goedeke left with a foot injury that sidelined him for six games.
Later in the season, Wirfs missed more time but the Bucs passed on using Heck at left tackle. Undrafted rookie Ben Chukwuma got the call instead.
As for the Heck experience in Tampa, it’s now over. He signed today with the Dolphins as a backup tackle.
