Lately, the Los Angeles Clippers have had great luck in the injury department when it comes to their superstar forward, Kawhi Leonard. Since Leonard missed a three-game stretch back in mid-January, the veteran has played in all but one Clippers game leading up to their March 14 game against the Sacramento Kings.
During the Clippers’ latest matchup against the Sacramento Kings, Leonard went out with an ankle injury. The team announced that he was dealing with a sprain following the game.
At that point, Leonard’s status for the Monday night battle against the San Antonio Spurs immediately came into question.
Los Angeles Clippers Announce Final Call On Kawhi Leonard vs San Antonio Spurs
When the Clippers released their initial injury report on Sunday night, Leonard was listed as doubtful to play.
As the chances were already slim, it didn’t come as a surprise when Leonard was officially ruled out for the night on Monday afternoon. Leonard will miss his first set of action since the Clippers’ February 26 action against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
During Leonard’s last time out, he was able to clock 25 minutes against the Kings. The star forward shot an efficient 56% from the field and hit on 2-6 shots from beyond the arc.
Leonard left the game early after producing 31 points, six rebounds, and two steals. The Clippers couldn’t seal the deal without him, taking on a 118-109 loss.
Kawhi Leonard’s Timeline In Question
The fact that the Clippers even left the door open slightly for Leonard to play on Monday night is a positive sign that he might have dodged a major bullet.
Still, without an exact recovery timeline in place, nobody can be so sure about his plans for a return at this time.
Heading into Monday’s action against the second-seeded Spurs, the Clippers are 34-33 on the year. They rank eighth in the Western Conference, after winning seven of their last 10 games.
With Leonard healthy and on the floor, the Clippers are one of the most dangerous teams in the game. On Monday, they’ll get a post-deadline preview of what the team looks like without him.
