Arsenal and Liverpool have the chance to bring in some new faces when the summer transfer window opens

Arsenal are perhaps closing in on a long-awaited Premier League title, beating Everton 2-0 at home over the weekend to boost their chances. As for Liverpool, the reigning champions, they drew 1-1 against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield and have underperformed since they won the league last year under Arne Slot.

Two teams who have enjoyed (or endured) contrasting fortunes across the course of the 2025/26 season, then - but also two teams who could be rivals for the same headline-grabbing transfer deal this summer, according to new reports...

Arsenal & Liverpool target Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall

Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in a £70m move for Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall this summer, according to CaughtOffside. His contract in the North East expires in June 2029 meaning they are under no immediate pressure to cash in on him anytime soon. Manchester City have also been mentioned as potential suitors, as well as German pair RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

The Gunners could see Hall as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined, he would battle it out with Riccardo Calafiori for a place in Arteta’s starting XI. Myles Lewis-Skelly’s future would be placed into doubt if Hall ended up in North London later this year.

As for Liverpool, they need to start thinking about long-term replacements for Andy Robertson and Hall would fit the bill. Robertson’s deal expires when this season is over and he is due to become a free agent. He was linked with Tottenham Hotspur back in January but nothing materialised in the end.

Will Newcastle United be able to keep hold of Lewis Hall amid Arsenal and Liverpool interest?

Hall, 21, has a bright future ahead of him in the game and Newcastle won’t want to lose him anytime soon, especially to a team in the same league. He has been a key player since his transfer back in 2023. The full-back initially joined them on loan before his permanent switch.

The England international, who has two caps to his name, rose up though Chelsea’s academy ranks. He was a regular for the Blues at various different youth levels before he went on to play 12 games for their first-team. The London-born man was then given the green light to head out the exit door.

He has turned into an important asset for Newcastle and he has made 94 appearances in all competitions, 38 of which have come in this campaign, and he has chipped in with three goals. If either Arsenal or Liverpool snapped him up, he would be a great long-term option. In addition, he has proved his worth in the top flight over recent times and may now be ready to take the next step in his career.

Manchester City are also said to be keen along with Bundesliga duo Leipzig and Dortmund. Pep Guardiola’s men are trailing the Gunners in the title race right now and dropped points away at West Ham last time out. They drew 0-0 at the London Stadium and weren’t able to find a winner.
