Jack Gibbens will leave the New England Patriots

Just over a month after playing in the Super Bowl, linebacker Jack Gibbens will leave the New England Patriots.

The Arizona Cardinals have announced that they have signed Gibbens to a two-year deal. The value of the contract has yet to be revealed.

Gibbens’ deal with the team comes shortly after he visited the organization and found himself a member shortly after.

The linebacker, who signed a one-year deal with the Patriots on veteran minimum, found himself wearing the green dot after captain Robert Spillane went down with an injury and had the second-best season of his career in specific statistics.

The new Cardinal player had history with Pats head coach Mike Vrabel, having played for him while Vrabel was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans — Gibbens had his best seasons under his, now, former HC.

New England had the option to place the restricted tender on Jack Gibbens and could match offers from other teams, but did not.

Before Robert Spillane went down with his injury, Jack Gibbens was primarily played on special teams (playing 64% of the team’s special teams snaps).

With his elevated role after the captain’s injury, the linebacker reveals that he can be a good depth piece for his new team.

“The Cardinals missed Mack Wilson Sr. in the middle of their defense in the second half of the season, and will welcome him back now that he is healed,” Cardinals senior writer Darren Urban wrote. “But finding more depth at inside linebacker is important, and why they signed Jack Gibbens on Monday to a two-year contract.”

“Gibbens, going into his fifth season, had his best year for New England after playing for Tennessee for three seasons (Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort was in the Titans front office when he arrived as an undrafted free agent.) Gibbens started eight games and played all 17, with 81 tackles, eight tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and four pass breakups.”

A two-way player, Jack Gibbens, will join new head coach Mike LaFleur with the Arizona Cardinals.

The New England Patriots have made some notable signings this offseason, such as signing EDGE rusher Dremont Jones and offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker, but have failed to retain any players from the Super Bowl run.

Notable departures include K’Lavon Chaisson to the Washington Commanders, Jaylinn Hawkins to the Baltimore Ravens and defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga to the Kansas City Chiefs.

All were key contributors to the Pats defense that had allowed 18.8 points per game, the fourth-fewest in the 2025 regular season.

While the Patriots have made additions to the defense, these players understand the defensive system in Foxborough.

With the splashes, New England appears poised to make another Super Bowl run in the 2026 season.
