Fabrizio Romano confirms Arsenal are working on contracts for two players

Premier League leaders Arsenal F.C. are edging closer to securing contract extensions for defensive star Jurrien Timber and midfield talisman Declan Rice, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Timber joined Arsenal from Ajax in the summer of 2023 on a five-year deal running until 2028, and the club are now keen to reward his rapid development with improved terms.

The versatile defender has impressed since arriving in North London, registering four goals and nine assists in 62 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Romano revealed that negotiations are progressing positively, with the Dutch defender viewed as a key figure in the club’s long-term plans.

“Arsenal are working on contracts. Two more contracts in negotiation. One is Jurrien Timber,” Romano said.

“Arsenal are very happy with the player, super professional, talented, developing very well, and a crucial player for Mikel Arteta. So Timber is staying and the contract is getting closer.”

Romano also confirmed that Arsenal are in advanced discussions with Rice over a new deal.

“And then Declan Rice. The conversation already started in 2025. Now, the negotiation is well underway and contacts are becoming really concrete between Declan Rice camp and Arsenal over new contract,” he said.

He noted that negotiations are not yet in their final stages, but emphasised that discussions are progressing smoothly and there is growing confidence from both the club and the players’ camps.

“The negotiation is ongoing very well and so Declan Rice is expected to sign a contract extension with Arsenal on improved terms.”

“Optimistic to get the deal done but conversation are not on the final stages but the feeling from both sides is that this is going to be sorted quite soon,” he added.

The England international arrived from West Ham United during the same 2023 summer transfer window in a blockbuster move that tied him to the club until 2028, with an option for an additional year.

Talks over an extension reportedly began in 2025 and have now gathered momentum, with both parties optimistic that an agreement on improved terms will be reached soon.

Rice has become a central figure in Arsenal’s midfield and a leader within the dressing room since his arrival.

Despite early scrutiny over his record transfer fee, the England international has justified the investment with consistent performances, contributing 20 goals and 31 assists in 145 appearances in all competitions.
