**Ex-Chelsea captain John Terry has lavished praise on Max Dowman following his performance in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton at the weekend.**
Speaking after the match, Terry likened the teenager’s ability to dribble past opponents to Argentinian legend Lionel Messi:
“Max Dowman, what a player by the way, 16 years of age, absolutely incredible. I watched him play against Chelsea about a year ago, and I’ve not seen anyone glide past people like this man does, other than Messi.”
“That’s a big, big comparison but this man is a proper talent and will play a big part in Arsenal’s future and also England as well.”

Within 15 minutes, he had helped create the first goal for Viktor Gyokeres, before sealing victory himself with a mazy run from his own half.
As Terry points out, Dowman glided past players before he put the ball into the back of an empty net, showing incredible skill and composure for someone so young. The result puts Arsenal nine points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
When will Dowman sign his professional contract?

The attacking midfielder only turned 16 at the end of last year, so he will remain on a scholarship with the Gunners for the rest of 2026.
Any supporters concerned that Dowman could be poached between now and then should rest easy.
The youngster pre-agreed to sign his first professional deal back at the end of January. That will become official on his 17th birthday, which is New Year’s Eve 2026.
Of course, Dowman could provide more memorable moments between now and then. Based on his display versus Everton, manager Mikel Arteta may seriously consider starting him in upcoming fixtures.
