Jamie Carragher has been trying to explain why no one seems to want Arsenal to win the league.

Arsenal and City do still need to play each other, both in the league and the Carabao Cup final, but we are getting to the stage where the Gunners would have to slip up more often than not, with only seven games remaining, and that is not likely.

Strangely, though, Arsenal are a team many don’t want to see win the league, even clubs who are not necessarily their rivals. and that’s something Carragher has tried to explain, bringing the club’s fans into the equation.

“I think it’s very strange, and maybe it’s the same with the Carabao Cup final,” Carragher began on Sky Sports. “When you have a team like Man City, who have dominated the past era, most neutrals want the underdog – the team who want the battle.

“But it doesn’t feel that way with Arsenal. Maybe there’s a lot of Man United, or Liverpool fans, even though City is the local rival, and Liverpool have been competing with City for the title (in recent years), they’re looking and thinking, ‘maybe I want City to win it’.

“There is something about Arsenal, and the way they’ve gone about it, whether it’s the style of football, whether it’s Arteta on the side of the pitch, there is something about them – maybe it’s the fanbase, they get a bit of criticism – that maybe rubs people up the wrong way.”

It’s unclear what Carragher means exactly with his comment about Arsenal fans who. Every club has their portion of fans who rub people up the wrong way, and there are clubs with fans who are far more in your face, so to speak, than Arsenal.
