Newcastle United expect to have Sandro Tonali in their squad that flies to Barcelona today.

The Italy international has been in bed with an illness for the last few days and missed the 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Tonali has had late fitness tests and was named in the Newcastle party to travel to Catalonia.

Also on board will be club skipper Bruno Guimaraes who is back with the club after one month of rehab in Brazil.

Bruno though will not play against the La Liga table toppers.

Newcastle could also take Lewis Miley along for the ride but at this stage Howe has played down talk of a return from a thigh problem.

Speaking on Tonali following the win at Chelsea on Saturday night, Howe said: "He was feeling unwell after training yesterday. It quickly became apparent that he would not be able to travel.

"Fingers crossed it follows a similar pattern with the other illnesses we've had and it is a quick recovery.

"There has been something going around now for two or three weeks in the squad and hopefully this is the same."
