Man United are hoping to secure Champions League qualification come the end of the season.
In their last game, they beat rivals Aston Villa 3-1, damaging Unai Emery’s side’s chance of qualifying for the Champions League. The likes of Chelsea, Brentford, Liverpool and Newcastle remain in the fight too, but United are currently top of that group.
If Villa fail to qualify, one of their players may demand to leave the club in search of Champions League football, and Man United should be looking to sign him.
Morgan Rogers could leave for Champions League football
Morgan Rogers has attracted the attention of Premier League rivals Chelsea in recent weeks, and Villa’s recent form has intensified the reports. It is understood that if Aston Villa fail to qualify for the Champions League, Rogers could push to leave Villa Park in search of European football.
According to talkSPORT Journalist Alex Crook, Aston Villa are wary that they could lose Rogers if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. He said, “I know Morgan Rogers has signed this new contract.
“I am digging around to try and find out if there is some kind of release clause in that contract, because he will have suitors at other clubs.”
Rogers has been a key player for both Aston Villa and England this season. He’s made 30 appearances in the Premier League, scoring eight goals and providing five assists. His best position has been in the number 10 role, behind a central striker, the role that Bruno Fernandes plays at Man United.
Rogers could be Fernandes’ long-term replacement
Either they sell him this summer for a return, and sign a replacement, or they offer him a new contract. But seeing as Fernandes is now 31, a long-term contract seems an unlikely option based on any potential decline in the near future, despite his impressive form this season.
Rogers would be the ideal replacement for Fernandes, as he can create, he can score, and he is comfortable being the main attacking outlet in midfield, because he plays the exact same role at Villa Park.
