SN 140 Moments: No. 53 - Ray Allen's 3-pointer saves Heat in NBA Finals vs. Spurs

When you think of the biggest shots in NBA history, Ray Allen’s 3 has to be near the top of the list.

The Spurs had a chokehold on the 2013 Finals. Up five with only 28 seconds to go in a potentially series-clinching Game 6, the league had already started taping off areas to begin a trophy presentation. Heat fans were streaming out of the exits, convinced their team had no hope of winning.

Minutes later, those fans desperately tried to re-enter the arena as Miami clawed back through a miraculous string of events. LeBron James hit a 3 to get the lead down to two. Kawhi Leonard split a pair of free throws to make it a one possession game.

With eight seconds remaining, LeBron missed a game-tying 3, Chris Bosh grabbed the rebound through a crowd of defenders, and threw it to a backpedaling Allen for one last gasp attempt.

With his toes just beyond the corner of the 3-point line and Tony Parker in his jersey, Allen fired up a shot with a gunslinger’s quick release. It hit nothing but net. Allen stayed inbounds through pure muscle memory, not having time to look down at his feet before releasing the ball.

The Heat went on to win in overtime and seal their second consecutive championship with another win in Game 7.
