John Elway had many memorable moments in his 16-season Hall of Fame career with the Broncos. But it took him laying out his 37-year-old body at the end of his penultimate playoffs trip to win his first Super Bowl. Losing three times as a younger QB in the big game, Elway wouldn’t let his team be denied a fourth time as 12-point underdogs against the Packers in Super Bowl 32. Green Bay was a big favorite to repeat, but was tied with Denver 17-17, halfway through the third quarter. Elway led the Broncos on a 92-yard TD drive, one that came down to a third-and-6 from the Packers’ 12.
Elway gained eight yards on a scramble and went airborne, being spun around by multiple defenders. Two rushes by Terrell Davis later, the Broncos scored the TD to go up 24-17. The play was all Elway with the competitiveness and toughness needed to finally get his ring. Thanks to game MVP Davis continuing to run through the Packers, the Broncos won, 31-24. Elway then walked off into the sunset with a repeat in Super Bowl 33 over the Falcons, earning MVP of his last game.
