Ashley Cole has taken Chelsea coach with him to first managerial job at Cesena

Ashley Cole is the latest Chelsea legend to make the plunge into management after taking the job at Serie B side Cesena.

The former left-back has followed in the footsteps of Cesc Fabregas by starting his managerial career in the second tier of Italian football, making the brave step to move away from home to gain experience.

Cole has worked as an assistant and youth coach at Chelsea in the past, before becoming one of the deputies for England just before Thomas Tuchel was hired as the manager.

Ashley Cole takes Chelsea coach Jack Mesure with him to Cesena

Now though he is the one in charge of Cesena, although according to Training Ground Guru, he will be joined by Jack Mesure as his new assistant manager.

The 38-year-old worked as a youth coach between 2018-2020 at Cobham, before returning to the club as the U23s assistant manager between 2021-2025.

After that, he briefly worked as the loan manager, helping monitor the progress of some of Chelsea’s brightest young stars including Geovany Quenda and Dastan Satpaev.

Cole will be hoping that Mesure can have the same impact alongside him which Jody Morris has had throughout the managerial career of Frank Lampard, after the pair were teammates together at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard is currently the measuring stick for former Chelsea players when it comes to making the leap into management, enjoying two spells as Blues manager so far.

He started with a successful stint at the helm of Derby County, where Cole was actually in the final days of his playing career.

After spells at Chelsea and Everton, he currently finds himself in charge of Coventry City in the Championship.

After a record-breaking start to the season, he is now a heavy favourite to return to the Premier League next season, setting up another homecoming at Stamford Bridge.
