One West Ham star has drawn praise from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
Mikel Arteta has praised a West Ham player who has been one of the standout players at the London Stadium this season. The Iron have rallied back in recent weeks, clawing back to within goal difference of safety despite looking as though they were in danger of being cut adrift at one stage.
The Hammers now have a real opportunity, with Nuno Espirito Santo having done some fine work, even if it did take some time, with new January signings like Pablo Felipe, Axel Disasi, Taty Castellanos and others making a big impact.
But a number of existing players have also picked up in form, and among the most reliable players is Konstantinos Mavropanos, who has been an undroppable for pretty much the whole season.
So much so that when Disasi arrived in January, there was little doubt over which centre-back he would play alongside, with Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo falling behind Mavropanos.
The Greece international added to his impressive performances with a big goal over the weekend, scoring the equaliser in the draw against Manchester City.
On the back of that goal and performance, Mavropanos’ former boss Arteta was asked about what he thinks of his old player’s form at West Ham.
“Very, very good character,” said the Spaniard. “A player that was signed just before I arrived as well. He had a long-term injury and didn’t get that many minutes but good to see him doing really well.”
Mavropanos only ever made seven league appearances for Arsenal before joining Stuttgart, where he had one season before being snapped up by West Ham on a deal worth around £20million.
That has proven a fine deal for the Hammers, and indeed for Mavropanos, who seems to be enjoying his time at the London Stadium, or at least as of January.
