Chelsea player pulled out of national squad–Scans reveal extent of injury

**Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen will miss the March international break with Denmark due to an injury.**

The 23-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge from Villarreal in July 2024, a year after Robert Sánchez joined Chelsea.

He is behind the Spaniard in the pecking order and played 34 matches, keeping 11 clean sheets and conceding 38 goals.

The Denmark international has one clean sheet and has conceded 16 goals from 10 matches this season.

He made his first league appearance under Liam Rosenior in the Blues’ 4-1 win over Aston Villa on March 5th. A week later, Jørgensen started in the 5-2 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, an injury saw him miss the west London club’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend. On Monday, Rosenior confirmed he will undergo scans to determine the extent of the damage.

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has been the first-choice for the national team over the years. He has been the No.1 for over a decade and played 120 matches. However, an injury saw him [withdraw from the Denmark squad](https://sportwitness.co.uk/we-are-concerned-worry-over-celtic-injury-made-public-as-crucial-games-ahead/) for the upcoming international break.

Chelsea player forced to miss out

Denmark face North Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier on March 26th. Schmeichel’s absence would have opened the door for Jørgensen to start in goal for his country.

However, Denmark manager Brian Riemer has left him out of the squad. Earlier today, he announced the squad for the upcoming key clash, and the Chelsea man misses out.

[Bold](https://bold.dk/fodbold/stillinger/vm-kval-uefa/nyheder/efter-stop-ronnow-sagde-ja-efter-jorgensen-skade) now report the Celtic and Chelsea goalkeepers injuries have forced Riemer to include KVC Westerlo’s Andreas Jungdal and Union Berlin’s Frederik Rønnow’s in the squad, along with West Ham United’s Mads Hermansen.

Rønnow, 33, had announced his international retirement in 2024. Riemer now confirms speaking to him, following Jørgensen’s setback, to bring him back to the national team circuit.

_“I have been in dialogue with Rønnow after Filip’s injury, and he has agreed to help with these matches to be played in March. We are super grateful and super happy that we can present a goalkeeper of the absolute top shelf,”_ he said.

What do Riemer’s comments indicate

Jørgensen will miss today’s clash against PSG and also the league match against Everton on Saturday.

After the international break, Chelsea face Port Vale in the FA Cup. The Dane may not feature even if he’s fit as he didn’t make it to the squad against Wrexham in the last round.

Manchester City visit Stamford Bridge on April 12th. Rosenior can only hope Jørgensen if fit for this tie next month. His setback is likely to allow Hermansen to start for Denmark against North Macedonia.
