Manchester United and their Premier League rivals will be on red alert as Real Madrid are reportedly ready to axe six players. The La Liga outfit are said to be plotting a summer overhaul, that could see some of their top talents available at a reduced price.
It’s been an up-and-down season for the record European champions, who began the campaign with Xabi Alonso at the helm, but quickly moved to sack the Spanish coach at the turn of the year. It hasn’t done much to inspire a La Liga title bid, given Barcelona still lead the way, but interim Alvaro Arbeloa has overseen a couple of big results in the Champions League.
Whatever happens to Los Blancos between now and the end of the season, it’s expected that the summer will be a busy one in the Spanish capital. It’s being reported by BILD that as many as six players could be about to leave, with defender David Alaba top of the list.
The 33-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is unlikely to be given a renewal because of his constant injury issues. While the Austrian might not attract much attention from the Premier League big dogs, fellow defender Antonio Rudiger might instead.
Like Alaba, Rudiger is 33 years old, but has still impressed with his performances at times in recent months. It’s claimed the door remains open for a renewal, should he catch the eye between now and the end of the season, otherwise, he will also depart as a free agent.
United are said to be in the market for a centre-back, and given the Red Devils are expected to return to the Champions League, Rudiger’s continental experience could prove paramount. What’s more, United could land a double dose of experience, should they snag Dani Carvajal, who is also coming towards the end of his deal.
The right-back would by no means be a starter at Old Trafford, but given the increase in matches United will play upon their return to Europe, he again could be a useful option to have. But the best bargains might be found elsewhere.
That’s because Eduardo Camavinga is among the names said to be on the clearout list at Real Madrid. The 23-year-old midfielder would no doubt garner attention from clubs across the continent, especially among the likes of United, Liverpool and Arsenal, who have all been linked with midfield additions.
The Frenchman has been unable to nail down a starting spot during his time with the club and is reportedly available for as little as £44milllion. Elsewhere, left-backs Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia could also be of interest to Premier League sides, with the expectation that at least one will depart.
