“Can Certainly Afford Him”: New England Patriots Urged To Sign Tight End David Njoku In Free…

The New England Patriots finished with a 14-3 record last season and made it to Super Bowl LX before losing to the Seattle Seahawks. New England was ahead of schedule in its first season with Mike Vrabel as the head coach. With the Patriots having money in cap space, they need to find more weapons for quarterback Drake Maye.

They did sign wide receiver Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $80 million contract in the offseason, but the Patriots need to find more targets. They released wide receiver Stefon Diggs as well. One player that is not yet signed yet in free agency is tight end David Njoku. He played for the Cleveland Browns last season, and he probably will not be re-signed by Cleveland.

Gary Davenport of bleacherreport.com wrote seven key free agents who are available on the market. Njoku is one of the free agents available on the market. He thinks that the best fit for him would be New England. Davenport said,

“With Austin Hooper gone, the Patriots have a need for a pass-catching tight end. And New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels favored “12” personnel (two tight end) groupings long before they became the hip new thing in the NFL of late.

Given his injury history, Njoku is likely looking at one-year deals from here on out. And given how that mitigates the risk of signing him, he become all the more attractive to a Patriots team that can certainly afford him.”

Njoku is 29 years old and will be 30 years old when the 2026 NFL season begins. With the Browns last season, he caught 33 passes for 293 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 8.9 yards per reception. Njoku was targeted 48 times. He is from Cedar Grove, New Jersey. Njoku would not sign with the New York Giants. Would he go to the New York Jets? Maybe, but playing with Maye and the Patriots would be a better fit for him anyways.
