Chelsea youngster Ishe Samuels-Smith has been tipped to become a £40m player

The Blues have also signed top young talents from Premier League clubs, including Ishe Samuels-Smith from Everton back in 2023.

Journalist Patrick Boyland has told ‘The Everton Byline’ that he was told by people at Everton that the young defender had the potential to become a £40m player if managed the right way.

He said: “I think what Everton have had over recent years is a they’ve had this kind of pincer effect of we’ve got no money.

“Who do we sell from a PSR perspective to create quick pure profit late in the financial year? It’s Ellis Simms. It’s Tom Cannon. It’s Anthony Gordon. Ishe Samuels-Smith who I had people at Everton telling me was a potential 40 million pound left back if his development was handled well.

“These weren’t on the cheap. Ishe Samuels-Smith went for about three and a half to four million.”

After joining the club, there were reports that Enzo Maresca was considering Samuels-Smith for a first team role, however up to now he has never featured for the Blues.

Chelsea haven’t given up on Samuels-Smith

The Blues sold Samuels-Smith to sister club Strasbourg in 2025, however seemed to have a change of heart when it came to his long-term future.

Less than two months later, Chelsea signed the teenager back from the Ligue 1 side, instead opting to loan him to Swansea City.

The England U20 international has made just five appearances in the Championship this season, with the Blues likely looking for a different club to take him on loan next season.

An opportunity may open up soon at left-back at Stamford Bridge. While Jorrel Hato looks another talent for the future, Marc Cucurella’s contract is set to run out in 18 months, with it unclear if he will sign another deal.
