Pistons’ Stewart (calf) to be reevaluated next week

The Detroit Pistons will be without Beef Stew for the immediate future.

The team announced on Tuesday that big man Isaiah Stewart is out of action with a Grade 1 calf strain.

Stewart, 24, will be reevaluated in a week’s time.

A native of Rochester, NY, Stewart played in Friday’s 126-110 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, but did not dress in Sunday’s 119-108 loss to the Toronto Raptors.

“It’s something he’s been dealing with,” Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said after the Raptors game. “It just had been getting worse. He gutted it out [Friday] and I think you could see he was favouring it late [on Sunday]. It’s something we’re going to take time with.”

Stewart is in his sixth NBA season out of Washington. He’s appeared in 53 games this season, averaging 10.0 points on .541 shooting with 5.1 boards and 1.2 assists over 23.1 minutes a night.

The Pistons (48-19) return to action on Tuesday night with a visit to the Washington Wizards (16-51).
