Could the Cowboys end up signing Larry Ogunjobi?
The Dallas Cowboys had a tough 2025 season. They finished the 2025 campaign with a 7-9-1 record and missed the playoffs for the second year in a row. With this, the Cowboys will be entering the 2026 season with the hope of putting together a much-needed bounce-back year.
However, when looking at the Cowboys’ roster, it is absolutely clear that they should still be looking to boost their defense before the season gets here. There are still some solid free agents available for the taking, so it would be understandable if they made a few more signings this offseason because of it.
Due to this, the Cowboys are now being linked to an interesting veteran free agent who would have the potential to be a good addition to their roster.
Cowboys Linked to Veteran Free Agent Defensive Tackle Larry Ogunjobi
In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Randy Gurzi took a look at a few affordable free agents who the Cowboys should consider adding to their roster. Among the players discussed was veteran defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi.
“Larry Ogunjobi signed a one-year, $8.3 million contract with the Buffalo Bills in 2025, but didn’t have a great stint with them. Ogunjobi was suspended for the first six games of the season for violating the league’s PED policy,” Gurzi wrote. “Ogunjobi is a better player than he showed in 2025, and he has experience as a defensive end in a 3-4 system from his days with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s not going to be a game-changer, but he could be a reliable rotational player.”
The Cowboys would make sense as a landing spot for Ogunjobi. He would be an interesting player for the Cowboys to buy low on, as he has demonstrated during his career that he can be an impactful player when performing at his best.
Ogunjobi would also give the Cowboys’ roster more experience, which would certainly not be a bad thing. The 31-year-old has nine years of NFL experience and has played in 134 career games split between the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Steelers, and Bills. With this, he would not only provide the Cowboys’ defense with a bit of a boost but also give them a veteran who could help mentor their younger players in the process.
Ogunjobi appeared in 10 games this past season with the Bills, where he had 19 tackles. While it was a quiet year for Ogunjobi in Buffalo, he also had at least 41 tackles from 2018 to 2024. With this, he is a prime bounce-back candidate and could be a good player for the Cowboys to take a gamble on if it’s at an affordable price.
Cowboys Could Have Some Competition for Ogunjobi
If the Cowboys decide to pursue Ogunjobi, it is likely that they would have competition for his services. Teams are always looking to improve their depth at this point in the offseason, and Ogunjobi is a solid option due to his past success and experience.
However, with the Cowboys still needing to improve their roster, it would make sense if they pursue Ogunjobi. It will be interesting to see if they end up being the team that lands him from here.
