The Toffees are hoping to qualify for Europe this term, so if they realise that goal, they’ll need to strengthen their ranks with players who have experience of the competition.

If the 87-cap England international does join, it’ll be interesting to see if he replaces James Tarkowski in the starting line-up and forms a partnership with Jarrad Branthwaite.

On paper, that’d probably be the strongest pairing, but it’ll depend on Stones’ fitness, as he has struggled with injuries in recent years.

The former Everton centre-back has only played seven Premier League games this term, starting just four.
