Jaylen Brown Discusses Sacrifice, Humility While Playing Alongside Jayson Tatum

Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown put up an MVP-type performance on Monday night with 41 points. We've seen plenty of these types of scoring outbursts from Brown in 2025-26, but it was notable this time around that Jayson Tatum was in the lineup alongside Brown.

Since Tatum has returned to the lineup, Brown has had to re-adjust to playing alongside another superstar. However, it's something that JB is very used to, having played almost his entire career alongside Tatum, and having won a championship as a superstar duo.

This doesn't mean it's always easy to share. In the postgame presser following Monday's win over the Phoenix Suns, Brown opened up about the mental adjustments required when sharing the floor with another elite scorer.

“It takes some humility,” Brown said, per CLNS Media's Bobby Manning. “It takes understanding. I think JT is extremely important for what we want to do. Obviously, I’m having a great season but I just have to think about the big picture. Sometimes it’s not easy.”

Asked Brown about sacrificing to fit Tatum in amid career yr: “It takes some humility. It takes understanding. I think JT is extremely important for what we want to do. Brown’s comments come as the Celtics maintain their status as Eastern Conference contenders entering the final stretch of the regular season. While Brown has thrived as the primary option all season long, it's clear that he hasn't lost sight of the shared vision for team success. His willingness to defer at times will make the Celts even more dangerous down the stretch.

That doesn't mean JB hasn't set himself up for an All-NBA selection. Brown has averaged 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game across 61 contests thus far. His efficiency and versatility have been key to Boston’s success this year.
