Pat Surtain II #2 of the Denver Broncos reacts after a win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Denver Broncos’ trade for Jaylen Waddle has riled up the base, and the former Miami Dolphins star also provided an update on his reaction to the same effect. As if there were any doubts following that, though, Broncos star Pat Surtain II has now also weighed in.

Surtain reunites with his former Alabama Crimson Tide teammate and sees his offense land an explosive playmaker.

That could take tremendous pressure off the fearsome defense.

Waddle’s update was an image of himself and Surtain during a video call that the wideout posted to his Instagram story following his trade from the Dolphins to the Broncos. Naturally, it drew attention.

Surtain reacted in kind, posting an image, not of himself or Waddle, but of former rapper-turned-social media personality Lil Woody. The sentiment was clear.

“Pat Surtain happy with the trade,” DNVR’s Zac Stevens posted, quoting Surtain’s reaction.

“#Broncos parted with *serious* draft capital to acquire Jaylen Waddle, but notable (at least to me) that they’re all 2026 picks,” The Denver Post’s Parker Gabriel posted on X on March 17. “Denver’s currently projected to have 10 picks in 2027. That class is set up to be loaded. Not shocked they were more willing to deal ‘26s.”

Still, the Broncos are under more pressure to hit on their top pick now, as they have before.

“#Broncos will have to hit on No 62 pick in draft,” 9News’ Mike Klis posted on X, adding, “The way they did Nik Bonitto (no 64) and Marvin Mims Jr (63) in 2022-23.”

Fittingly, The Denver Post’s Luca Evans posted that he does not expect the Broncos to shop the likes of Mims or fellow wideouts Pat Bryant and Troy Franklin, even in light of landing Waddle in the trade with the Dolphins.

Jaylen Waddle Made ‘Tough Personal’ Decision

“Jaylen Waddle, with the #Dolphins since they drafted him in 2021, learned he was being traded and drove right to the team headquarters to say goodbye to the staffers and people he’s gotten to know over the last few years,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on X on March 17. “A smart football decision, but a tough personal one.”

The Broncos land a “player they have liked for a while,” per Gabriel.

“#Broncos checked on Jaylen Waddle at the trade deadline but that was a different Miami staff and front office,” Gabriel said in another post. “Reporting with @bylucaevans that George Paton, Denver started talking this deal with Miami basically coming out of the Combine.

Waddle is getting a jump on beginning his Broncos tenure following his difficult exit after four seasons in Miami.

He should be in his new home by the end of the day.

“Jaylen Waddle will travel to Denver today, while his physical is scheduled for tomorrow, I’m told. The Broncos showed some very light interest in Waddle at the 2025 trade deadline, but talks didn’t heat up until after the recent Combine (over the last 10 days),” ESPN’s Jeff Darlington posted on X.

“Broncos remain the only team that hasn’t signed a free agent, instead subscribing to the belief that the best players aren’t available without a trade. And so… they pulled the trigger on Waddle.”
